Harry Potter and C.S. Lewis Teach Us What Love Is

Class Presented by Larry Farris
Joanne Rowling’s Harry Potter novels have been widely embraced because of their wisdom and insight on many topics—the right use of one’s gifts, navigating adolescence, the importance of imagination, the power of friendship, the nature of evil, and what love is. Join Parish Associate Larry Farris in exploring the last of these on Sunday, January 15, following Worship. Using another fine English author’s book, The Four Loves, by C. S. Lewis, we will explore how Harry comes to understand the power of love, as contrasted with Voldemort’s love of power. Familiarity with the Harry Potter novels will be helpful, and those attending will also be helped by reading or listening to Rowling’s commencement address at Harvard University some years ago.

Available in book form as Very Good Lives or here on Harvard Magazine.
