Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON)

Justice For Our Neighbors — First Presbyterian Church Kalamazoo

Justice For Our Neighbors – Kalamazoo (JFON) welcomes and supports immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers through legal services and social actions.

JFON pro bono legal services are provided to some of our most vulnerable immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking neighbors in Southwest Michigan. Our team works on a wide variety of legal cases in both Family Based and Humanitarian Immigration. We serve our clients in several ways: through legal clinics at our office in First United Methodist Church Kalamazoo and at the Kalamazoo Public Library; representation in the courtroom; providing legal education and outreach activities; as well as Advocacy Trainings in the Kalamazoo community.

Our clients are low-income folks, routinely living in very vulnerable situations. They range from 2 years old to 60+ years old. Our clients are refugees seeking green cards, migrant workers without status, noncitizen family members of American citizens, young adults brought here as children, juveniles seeking special exemption status, human/sexually trafficked individuals, employment authorization cases and more.

Our wonderful group of dedicated volunteers help us create a welcoming community that honors immigrants as fellow human beings and helps them integrate into local communities. We have a range of volunteer opportunities available: committee work on both Advocacy and Fund Development, Clinic volunteers providing intake assistance, interpretation and translation support, and hospitality help.
