As a result of conversations with members of the congregation, the Worship and Music Committee began talking about moving our Sunday worship time to 10:00 a.m. After discussing this with staff and members of the Christian Education Committee, and with the approval of Session, it was decided to begin Worship at 10:00 starting on June 11. We will evaluate the schedule again in August and decide whether or not to continue at 10:00 a.m.
In the summer, especially, many people prefer an earlier start so that they can take advantage of good weather for outdoor family activities, and still attend church. The 10:00 worship time would allow Adult Education classes, and other programs which are held after worship, to begin earlier and not infringe on lunch time. It could also provide the opportunity to develop additional music activities for children and youth, while their parents either participate in classes or continue fellowship at the coffee hour. Classes which meet before worship can adjust their meeting times according to participants’ preferences.
Our Renewed Vision for Ministry and Mission includes the goals of fostering spiritual nourishment for all stages of life, continuing growth in youth programming and strengthening ties with families. We believe this change could help us in furthering our progress toward those goals. We are looking forward to trying this new schedule and to hearing responses from members of the congregation.
